Tyler Dobson

Undergraduate Student at the University of Georgia

About Tyler

My name is Tyler Dobson and I am born and raised in Atlanta, GA. I am currently a 4th year undergraduate student at the University of Georgia majoring in Health Promotion with an emphasis on Health Services and a minor in Biology. Throughout my time at UGA I have been involved on campus through philanthropic organizations as well a lab research Assistant. In my pursuit in becoming a physician assistant, I have gained patient care experience throughout my undergrad years in a variety of clinical settings. Upon graduating in the May, 2022, I intend to gain further experience as a Medical Assistant before applying to Physician Assistant schools. I believe my work as a Health Promotion major will allow me to become better equipped to compassionately serve my future patients.

Undergraduate Field Experience

The Athens Nurses Clinic is a non-profit health care clinic providing free evaluation, treatment, and education for acute and chronic medical and dental conditions to uninsured low-and-no income residents of Athens-Clarke County and the surrounding communities.

I volunteered at ANC during the summer of 2021. In my time there I enhanced my educational and professional knowledge and ultimately gained practical experience in a dynamic health-care setting. I will be returning to Athens Nurses Clinic in January of 2022 to work as student intern for my 300 hour Health Promotion internship.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Beyond my research as a health promotion student and throughout my freshman and sophomore year of undergrad, I served as a research assistant for the CAN lab. As an RA, I primarily cleaned and sorted EEG data and Event Related Potentials (ERPs), which are averaged EEG responses that are time-locked to stimuli in an experiment. Time-locked response to pleasant, unpleasant, and neutral images were examined to explore the time-course of affective response in people with schizophrenia compared to controls.

Undergraduate Philanthropic Involvement

UGA® Miracle raises money and awareness for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. We are proud that the first $1M we raise will directly fund Rehab Services and all additional funds will support the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at Children’s.

I have been a part of UGA miracle all four years of college, having raised a total of $8,000 alone over the past few years. From 2020-2021 I served on the Hospital Relations committee as the Assistant Chair of External Relations. The hospital relations committee serves as the direct liaison between our organization and the hospital we serve.
